Broccoli Sprout Extract May Be Nature's Anti-Cancer Miracle

Sulforaphane is a potent phytonutrient that's highly concentrated in broccoli sprout extract. Researchers have found that sulforaphane has anti-cancer, anti-diabetic and antimicrobial properties. Broccoli sprout extract can:

  • Protect against skin cancer

  • Reduce the visible signs of aging

  • Lower cholesterol

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Support liver detoxification

  • Decrease inflammation

  • Improve cardiovascular health

  • Lower high blood pressure

  • Protect against macular degeneration

  • Reduces damage to blood vessel cells caused by hyperglycemia.

Although mature broccoli also contains sulforaphane, broccoli sprout extract contains considerably more. Packed with cancer-fighting compounds, sprouts contain 10-100 times more sulforaphane than mature plants. One ounce of broccoli sprout extract delivers as much sulforaphane as 1 ½ pounds of mature broccoli.

Can Sulforaphane Prevent Or Lower The Risk Of Certain Cancers?

Anti-cancer effects of sulforaphane have been observed in studies about:

  • Breast cancer

  • Prostrate cancer

  • Liver cancer

  • Lung cancer

  • Stomach cancer

  • Bladder cancer

  • Colon cancer

How Does Sulforaphane Work?

Sulforaphane appears to work by activating cancer-fighting antioxidants within the body, reducing cell destruction by free radicals, protecting cells from toxins, preventing the spread of existing cancers and by causing cancer cells to self-destruct. Sulforaphane seems to clear the body of toxins, free radicals and carcinogens. It also has an antibiotic effect on ulcer-causing Helicobacter pylori bacteria in the intestines.

Does Broccoli Sprout Extract Protect Against Skin Cancer?

Broccoli sprout extract can reduce the incidence of skin tumors caused by UV radiation. A Johns Hopkins study found that applying sulforaphane to skin tumors resulted in a 50% reduction of tumors in mice exposed to damaging levels of UV radiation. This reduction included both shrinkage of existing tumors and in the number of tumors per mouse. The results suggest that sulforaphane not only prevents progression of existing tumors but shrinks tumors that have already formed.

The researchers concluded that topical applications of sulforaphane in the form of broccoli sprout extract causes skin cells to more effectively resist the effects of UV radiation. Unlike sunscreen, which shields the skin from UV radiation, sulforaphane supercharges the body's natural defenses against it. A combination of sunscreen and topical broccoli sprout extract may be the safest and most effective way to protect skin from cancer and combat the harmful effects of UV.

Can Sulforaphane Help My Skin To Look Young?

According to the Standford Medicine Cancer Institute, exposure to UVB radiation is responsible for most skin cancers. However, UVA radiation causes visible skin aging, brown spots, wrinkling, and sagging. By boosting the skin's resistance to both types of UV radiation, broccoli sprout extract not only protects against cancer but helps the skin to maintain a youthful, vibrant and healthy appearance.

The disease fighting or "chemopreventitive" properties of Broccoli Sprout Extract are well known. Broccoli Sprout Extract has an unusually high amount of a natural isothiocynate called "Sulforaphane". Surforaphane is known to restrict tumorigenesis and carcinogenesis in their growth and increase of cancers.
